Physical Education Philosophy
The goal of our department in Health and Physical Education is to teach wellness through a variety of activities, games, and learning experiences. We expect our students to be respectful of themselves, their peers, and teachers. Our ultimate goal is to help students develop the ability to live a healthy and active lifestyle
As we return to school from the Covid 19 pandemic – Health and Physical Education will look familiar with some modifications to provide a safe and healthy program. Our staff contact information is listed below. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions you may have. We have included some important information about the Health / PE Department.
Students in all grades will have one marking period of Health and three marking periods of Physical Education. See the following expectations for students in Health / Physical Education:
Major Topics in Health – Grades 7-12
7th Grade – Family, Character Decision Making
8th Grade – Nutrition, Drugs & Alcohol
9th Grade – Sexual Education
10th Grade – Drivers Education
11th Grade – Current Health Issues
12th Grade – Relationships, Family Living
Attire: All students will need clothing for PE classes. The locker rooms will be open, and masks will be required at all times while indoors. Students should be dressed comfortably and prepared for activity. This will include sneakers, shorts, pants, t-shirt, sweatshirt. A student unprepared for physical activity will lose credit for the day.
Entering the Gym: When students arrive at PE, they will walk in a socially distant manner to their assigned locker room and change. They will drop off their backpacks off in their assigned locker and exit with their teacher. The locker room doors will be locked and secure during PE class. When the class returns to the locker rooms– students will change, collect their belongings and will be released by their teacher in an organized fashion.
While in Class: Students will be required to wear a mask when indoors, unless aerobically active. If students are doing an activity where they can be socially distant and are outside – masks will be optional. Most activities are designed to keep students socially distant and minimize the use of shared equipment handled by students. At the end of each class, equipment used will be sanitized by the PE staff
Exiting the Gym: All PE classes will leave the gym area 2 minutes prior to the end of the period to avoid a logjam in gym hallway and allow students to safely get to their next class in a socially distant manner.
Inclement Weather: Physical Education classes will take place outdoors whenever possible. In case of inclement weather – we will utilize the gym in a socially distant manner. Masks will also be required at all times
