Mr. Kevin Stokes

Welcome Back!
We are a few weeks away from the start of another action-packed year at East Brook Elementary School! There are several other initiatives planned for the 2018-19 School Year!

Welcome Back!

The media center project is expected to be finished by September. One component of the new space will be a brand new LEGO Wall in our makerspace! We are calling upon our families for a one-time LEGO collection via parent donation. Specifically, we are looking for loose LEGOS, not sets. There will be a container in the lobby from August 20th through September 7th. Please clean the LEGOs prior to dropping them off (dish soap works well). We will clean them again prior to storage, but any help would be appreciated!

Our PTO and the district has been very dedicated to ensure East Brook is aligned with the latest trends in education.

All new flexible seating, including the FIRST model classroom (6-Colletti), is ready to launch at some point this Fall. As principal of East Brook School, I believe that flexible classroom layouts are not just a movement, but a mainstay! My vision has been to work with teachers to create fun,

This September, we will open up our state-of-the-art Gaga Pit! Not to brag (OK, I will), but we seriously have the nicest Gaga Pit in the United States. I challenge anyone to find one better than ours! Thank you to the PTO along with Mr. Festa and Mr. Curran for going “Above and Beyond.”

I would like to welcome Bertha Adel and Kaley Koo as Co-Presidents. Please make sure to see the link below about joining our membership!

Our multi-purpose room has a few improvements as well. New glass backboards have donated by the PRAA. Additionally, another colorful mural was designed by East Brook alumna Juliana Barros.

This year we will celebrate students by reintroducing (or introducing) life skills that are believed to be important for success both in and out of school. Having done some light research, I compiled a specific list of school wide target skills to see our theme through!

The List:

Saying please; holding the door for others; making eye contact; being a digital citizen; smiling; learning the importance of patience; expressing thanks; offering help.

Parent Challenge: Please associate one Beatles song with each of our target skills. No prize – just for fun!

Our overarching goal continues to revolve around ensuring students LOVE coming to East Brook. It was awesome to hear that so many kids wanted to come back sooner than September 6th!

Other Thoughts…

  • Lorraine Syring went above and beyond to ensure ALL of our new teachers were supplied with everything they needed for a successful start!
  • Please make sure to check the Power School Parent Portal on or after August 17th (3pm) to find out your child’s teacher. Changes to class lists have been made since July, so please make sure you check again for final placement. No changes will be made.
  • On our website, please make sure to visit the Parent/Student Handbook, School Supply Lists, and Summer Reading. All are listed under the “Parents Tab.”
