WHAT IS LANGUAGE?
Language is the understanding and expression of the combination of our
phonology (sound system)
morphology (grammatical markers )
syntax (grammar) and
semantics (word meaning) and
pragmatic (social)
aspects of communication either orally, written, in pictures or through sign language.
What is a Language Disorder?
A Language Disorder is a breakdown in any of the systems that together create language. These can include difficulties with grammar, words, and using language socially to communicate what we wish with others. This difficulty can may influence school and how a student learns.
A Speech/Language Pathologist can diagnose and treat Language Disorders.
